Active Yard Breaks

We introduced circuits for Active Yard Breaks after Easter break.

The children perform repetitions of the exercises outlined on each picture card before moving onto the next circuit.

Active Line Leaders and Active Lines

Active Lines – The Active Line Leaders keeping the lines physically active before their return to class

Our Active School Team has expanded over time to allow the Line Leaders to focus on this role.

Additional Active School Leaders have been taken on to organize, tidy and monitor P.E equipment along with staff members.

We circulate jobs every term so that different children experience being involved in the Active School Flag process.

60 Minutes

The HSE recommends that every child get 60 minutes of physical activity daily.

The children at Naul N.S are achieving this most days during the school day.

This does not include the 60 minutes designated to the weekly P.E Curriculum lessons.

We provide the children with plenty of opportunities for physical activity built into the school day.

Many of the children walk 5 or more minutes to and from school.

They have a 10 minute yard break and a 30 minute yard break.

During their playtime they are provided with P.E equipment such as balls, hula hoops, skipping ropes, chalk (to play hopscotch), elastics and footballs. This encourages the children to be active.

They love to run and play chasing games.

While waiting in line for their teachers after breaktime, the Active school leaders demonstrate exercises which each class line performs them.

Teachers often bring the children outside for laps of the yard (a movement break) in order to re-energise and get some fresh air. This helps with the children’s concentration when they return to their academic work and also exercises their bodies.

On rainy days teachers ensure that the children remain physically active by performing body conditioning exercises indoors, Fyffes fit squad, Go noodle or Just Dance).

Playtime on the school football pitch

It is lovely that Spring is in the air.

Today the children had their first big yard break on the pitch at the back of the school.

The children enjoyed the extra freedom, space and additional safety the pitch provides to run on the grass and be physically active during their play time.

Student and Teacher Team Challenge

On Wednesday 16th of March 2022 we held a Student and Teacher Challenge.

We divided the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes into teams. Each team included a teacher.

The aim of the challenge was to see which team scored the most basketball hoops.

This was great fun!

The teachers and students were excellent at shooting Basketball hoops.

The children enjoyed seeing their teachers get involved in a fun Game and the teachers enjoyed taking part!

There was some fierce competition!

Each person had three shots.

Lots of hand to eye coordination and good aiming was necessary for this challenge.

There was lots of cheering and good sportsmanship displayed by all!

Ms.Moore’s team scored the most hoops. Well done!
